Gloucester City Safe Receives High Praise in National Standard Accreditation

Gloucester City Safe, which enjoys a close partnership with local authorities, neighbourhood policing teams in Gloucester and Stroud, has renewed its National Standards Accreditation – recognising it has achieved the highest standards of management practices and procedures.

Accreditation standards include good management practices and procedures such as membership agreements, data security and compliance with current legislation. It includes having robust information for members and partner organisations that is up to date as well as making it easily accessible 24/7. The standards also include the use of CCTV and radio links with members.

Member benefits include use of a radio system and DISC App, it provides a direct link to the Gloucestershire Constabulary CCTV control room, which monitors all radio transmissions to provide a response and assist with information sharing between businesses and police.

Steve Lindsay, City Safe Manager said: “We are very pleased and proud to have received the National Standard Accreditation for a further two years, following our successful original accreditation back in 2021.

“Working together with Gloucester BID, we have navigated through difficult times due to the impact of COVID-19. Businesses in the retail and hospitality sectors have been hit particularly hard and are still recovering two years on. We have had to adapt the way we manage the partnership.”

“We continue to work very closely with the Local Neighbourhood Policing Teams in both Stroud and Gloucester which has improved the flow and quality of our criminal intelligence, utilising our DISC system to the benefit of our members. Crime recording has improved, however we have seen a big increase in retail reported crimes over the last 12 months”.

Emily Gibbon, Gloucester BID Manager said “Ensuring Gloucester is a safe place to visit and work continues to be one of our main objectives. We are really pleased for City Safe to not only have received the accreditation for another two years, but to do so with high praise and exceeding expectations is wonderful.”

The National Standards Accreditation was carried out by the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships.

In their summary, NABCP Assessor said, “City Safe is an exceptional BCRP which exceeds the National Standard in many areas of operation. Fully compliant, with outstanding levels of participation by member businesses and partners.”

Police CPI is the accreditation body for Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRPs). A police-owned organisation, Police CPI works on behalf of the Police Service throughout the UK to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction services.

Gloucester City Safe is a not-for-profit Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) formed by members of the Business Community with the sole intention of facilitating the reduction of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.

They are representative of both Day and Night Time Economies, working together to reduce shoplifting, theft, anti-social behaviour, alcohol related disorder, street drinking and begging which affect all businesses throughout Gloucester.
