Gloucester City Mission (GCM) Coffee Lounge at Eastgate Shopping Centre in Gloucester is a warm and welcoming café with a clear community purpose. It opened in 2020 and serves ethically sourced hot drinks, homemade cakes, and a range of cold refreshments. It’s a relaxing place to take a break while supporting important local work.
GCM has supported people facing homelessness or unstable housing since 2003. The charity relies on donations and offers food, clothing, toiletries, and guidance to people in crisis. Every purchase in the Coffee Lounge helps fund this work, as all income goes straight back into the charity.
The café also provides training, volunteering, and employment opportunities for people with lived experience of homelessness or addiction. In addition, the upstairs kitchen hosts cooking lessons for individuals moving into new accommodation. GCM also delivers creative and therapeutic courses with support from local partners, including Gloucester City Council and the NHS.
The Coffee Lounge is open from Wednesday to Saturday and has quickly become known for its friendly atmosphere and regular visitors. Its work has appeared on BBC’s Songs of Praise, which further highlights its positive impact. Customers can also support the BillyChip scheme, which offers a safe alternative to giving cash directly to rough sleepers. BillyChips bought in the café can be exchanged for food or drink.
GCM Coffee Lounge at Eastgate Shopping Centre is more than a place for great coffee. It is a community hub that offers hope, practical support, and new opportunities for people across Gloucester.
