Karen’s Kids’ Diner Pops Up at Eastgate – Serving Sass with Every Order
Gloucester’s cheekiest new pop-up is landing at Eastgate Shopping Centre – and it’s run entirely by kids. For two weekends only, Karen’s Kids’ Diner will open its doors at 11 Bell Walk, serving up a playful menu and a whole lot of attitude, all inspired by the famously rude Karen’s Diner brand.
The project is a creative collaboration between GAS Projects, artist duo Hunt & Darton, and a talented group of young people from the Podsmead area. After weeks of workshops, business planning and design, the pop-up is now ready to welcome customers on 1st–2nd March and 8th–9th March, from 10am–4pm each day.
The young team, aged 8 to 16, have been involved in every detail — from concept and branding to uniforms, layout, policies and the final build of the space. With support from the Kids Business workshops led by Hunt & Darton, these young entrepreneurs turned their boldest ideas into a real, functioning (and hilariously rude) business.
Expect quirky menu items, sharp-tongued service, and a dining experience full of personality and humour. You’ll find Karen’s Kids’ Diner near the Tesco Express entrance to Eastgate Shopping Centre – and it’s hard to miss with its bold makeover and playful vibe.
Soozy Roberts, Artistic Director of GAS Projects, said:
“We’re super excited to bring Hunt & Darton’s amazing Kids Business to Gloucester for the first time. A lot of hard work and brilliant ideas have gone into the shop to get it ready for opening weekend and we want to extend a Karen-style welcome to the whole City to come and experience the children’s vision come to life.”
Hunt & Darton added:
“Hold onto your hats, Gloucester! GAS Projects and the kids of Podsmead have just dropped a culinary bombshell ‘Karen’s Kids’ Diner’, the cheekiest, most hilarious new pop-up in town! Prepare for a whirlwind of quirky vibes, sassy service, and an unforgettable menu that’s as bold as it is fun.”
Karen’s Kids’ Diner isn’t just a pop-up café – it’s a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and giving young people the space to express themselves. Whether you’re in it for the laughs, the food, or just the experience, this is one event you won’t want to miss.
GAS Projects would like to thank Blackbridge Charitable Community Benefit Society, Podsmead Big Local, Arts Council England, and Gloucester BID for their generous support.
