Kings Square Film Screening Returns – Have Your Say

The much-loved film screening event is returning to Kings Square in Gloucester on Friday 31 May, and this year, the public gets to help pick the movies.

Following the success of last year’s open-air cinema night, the free event will once again transform the heart of the city into a vibrant community space filled with music, laughter and blockbuster moments. Two films will be shown across the evening, and event organisers want local people to help shape the line-up.

Organised as part of the wider Colliers retail and leisure portfolio in Gloucester, which includes Kings Square, Eastgate Shopping Centre, King’s Walk, The Forum and St Oswalds Retail Park, this event highlights the area’s growing role as a cultural and community hub.

The public is invited to head over to the centre’s social media channels and comment with their favourite film choices. From feel-good musicals to family-friendly favourites and classic crowd-pleasers, anything goes. So far, the top contender is Wicked, but there’s still time for other titles to take the lead.

The event is completely free to attend, with no booking required. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic blankets or fold-out chairs and settle in for a relaxed evening under the open sky. It’s a great opportunity to gather with family, friends and neighbours for a special evening in the city centre.

This year’s screening is also proudly partnered with Gloucestershire Deaf Association, helping ensure the event is inclusive and accessible to all. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to community-focused programming and creating welcoming spaces for everyone.

Will James, Marketing and Commercialisation Manager for Eastgate and the wider King’s Quarter, said:
“Our community told us how much they loved last year’s screening – so we’ve brought it back, even bigger and better. Now we’re asking the public to help shape the evening. We want this to be an event the whole city feels part of, and it starts with the films you choose.”

The return of the Kings Square screening is just one of many community events taking place across the Colliers Gloucester portfolio this year. With new initiatives, free activities, and entertainment designed for all ages, the city centre continues to evolve into a place to shop, relax and connect.
